Rebel has become the biggest youth-lead event in Mississauga. Created by Mississauga youth together with the City of Mississauga and MiWay, Rebel is a weeklong, festival of creative expression and community involvement.

The theme of the 2015 exhibition is “Stigma” and the artists were asked to interpret their knowledge and reflections on the topic. We are all impacted by Stigma in some form and as a society it is up to us to find ways to reduce Stigma and see each other through the eyes of compassion and understanding. Sharing opinions, telling stories and reflecting on ideas through art can be a catalyst for change. These powerful pieces uniquely illustrate the idea of stigma in various and different perspectives. See how the youth of the district transform Leigh Square with their creativity and share their ideas and insights.

Starting in 2016, on the first weekend of May, the City of Brampton will host a literary festival that celebrates diverse authors and stories. The first day of the festival will focus on topics that are important and relevant to youth -- including spoken word artists and emerging authors that are addressing the issues that affect our marginalized communities.

The Arts Council of Sault Ste. Marie and District has reached out and asked the Sault Indigenous Writers' Collective to be present at the National Youth Arts Week: Sault Ste. Marie launch party.
