Disappointed upon learning that the renowned New Westminster Secondary School (NWSS) production was not going to happen this year, and knowing how impactful a production can be on the student body, my friend Tiger Xu and I sought for a way to revive the production. Taking on the role of co-producers, we sat down with the teachers at NWSS proposing a completely student run production this year. At first hesitant to hand over to us the responsibility of having to meet the high standards of NWSS Production shows, we eventually proved our dedication with careful planning and hard work. With the trust and support of Massey Theatre and the NWSS fine arts department, we now have a full team of 22 students and 10 professional mentors working on the production, overseeing costume and set design, acting, marketing, and running the show. We are producing the play Rumors by Neil Simon and with a production date set from May 1st to 3rd, rehearsals have been well under way since early February. We call ourselves “Two Gentlemen of New Westminster Productions” and have established a student based school club in hopes of supporting future ambitious students at NWSS.
