This workshop will focus on creative development of the four young spoken word artists who will be representing Saskatoon at YouthCanSlam 2014. The workshop is five hours to allow time for team members to take suggestions and edit their work, making their creative processes essential to the workshop.

Schools from around Saskatoon will be joining us at the Roxy Theater for an all-star slam full of spoken word pizazz. The show will start around 1:30, and end by 2:45 so that students have time to get back to their buses. Featured artists include Johnny MacRae, Lucia Misch, and Francis Arevalo, all travelling from Vancouver as part of the Write Out Loud and WordPlay exchange. This workshop has two central purposes. The first is to give artists tools to use in workshop facilitation such as exercises, techniques of engagement, and structuring a workshop. The second is to help artists understand the process and effort necessary to sustain spoken word community-based initiatives such as administration, communicating with potential partners, and maintaining work ethic and professionalism.

As part of Aanmitaagzi’s “Dances of Resistance” project local multi-artist Clayton Windatt will engage with the audience of the Fair of Alternative Art Sudbury in spontaneous performance art workshops that address the theme of conformity. By collaboratively finding ways of breaking conformity symbolically, we all share wanted similarities unifying people through choice and celebrating each other’s freedoms.

This is the second annual Extracurricular event being held in Waterloo Public Square on Saturday, May 3 from 12:00 noon - 9:00 pm by the eyeGo to the Arts Youth Council. . The event will consist of a tradeshow where different organizations and vendors from across the city will be present to promote themselves and the opportunity they provide youth within the community. The evening will include performances from local musicians and programming by our partner vendors and exhibitors and then finally culminating by a Dare Night and a live headliner band performance presented by the eyeGO Youth Council!

Selfies 4 Change was an idea when the founder, Theodore Syrette began planning for a youth presentation during Laurentian University's Pride week, on people who inspire change. After a asking a few people to submit the classic 'selfie' of themselves with an inspirational quote attached for the project, Theodore decided to ask everyone for their selfies. Then he developed the Facebook Page called 'Selfies4Change.' Let us share with one another our selfies and who or what inspires us to create positive change for ourselves and for others. We have just over 220 likes and over 50 submissions. Join in and share with others your selfies and what really inspires you to create positive change, Nationally!

Celebrate Comics - the artist, the story, the art. On Saturday, May 3 from 11:00am – 5:00pm, Idea Exchange is celebrating Cambridge Comic Arts Festival! Join us for a full day of activities and displays designed for comic lovers of all ages. Start off the day with family-friendly events at our Queen’s Square location. The Star Wars Storytime begins at 11:00am, use the Force and celebrate all things Star Wars in an action packed program! Test your skills in a Jedi Training course, go on a Moon Rock hunt and create an out of this world craft to transform yourself into Yoda or Princess Leia, even design your own light saber. Stay for the character visit at 11:30am and meet Princess Leia and a Star Wars Stormtrooper! Bring your camera, snap a photo, and May the force be with you! Discover the Queen’s Square Comic Expo throughout the day! You will have the chance to meet emerging and established comic book artists and vendors, view interactive displays complete with live drawing demonstrations that encourage participants of all ages to learn and create. Listen to spotlight presentations on topics ranging from character development to finding your first publisher. A list of artists and vendors will be posted by the end of March so check back soon! Celebrate Free Comic Book Day and take home a free comic just for participating. Comic books will be available at all library locations. Come for an hour or spend the day, either way you’ll experience the art of illustration.

The Festival théâtre-jeunesse is an annual theatre festival for French and Immersion students from junior high and high schools. Founded in 1970, this festival attracts up to 700 participating students every year, many of them writing and producing their own plays. After the week of presentations is the illustrious Gala awards evening on Friday evening.
