Fredericton will be joining the rest of the country to celebrate National Youth Arts Week. We are excited that it’s almost here: May 1st – May 7th. National Youth Arts Week provides an opportunity for young people across Canada to create a celebration of youth led events showcasing their talents, expressing and exchanging ideas, getting excited about the arts and celebrating their positive contribution to their communities and to Canada. We want No youth or community leaders to be left out, so please share this. Whisper & Shout invites young artists to make their voices seen and heard through their art. What do you want to say? And how loud do you want to say it? This exhibition will bring together youth from around the corner and across the city to challenge, celebrate, reveal, surprise, disturb and comfort through the power of art-making. Visual arts of all kinds are welcome. There will be youth-led workshops throughout the day of the opening a celebration from 5pm to 7pm including music, food, and, of course, the art.

The theme of the 2015 exhibition is “Stigma” and the artists were asked to interpret their knowledge and reflections on the topic. We are all impacted by Stigma in some form and as a society it is up to us to find ways to reduce Stigma and see each other through the eyes of compassion and understanding. Sharing opinions, telling stories and reflecting on ideas through art can be a catalyst for change. These powerful pieces uniquely illustrate the idea of stigma in various and different perspectives. See how the youth of the district transform Leigh Square with their creativity and share their ideas and insights.

(Vancouver, BC) ~ Missing from Me is a new and original Canadian production that brings together a culturally diverse group of youth including Mongolian, Japanese, French, Squamish Nation, Greek, Kurdish, Chinese, and Serbian. In an unexpected twist, eleven travellers at a train station must adapt to a sudden change in their plans. Due to this situation that is beyond their control, they are confronted with life altering decisions and end up discovering true inner strength and what family means to them. This open breakdance practice has been the longest running program in Vancouver for 10+ plus years. The main purpose of this program is to give space to those that have a passion for one of the elements of hip hop culture (bboying). It is also to help build a stronger community within the sub culture of hip-hop.
